Proposed legislation in Maine would ban transgender girls from participating in girls sports. The bill would prohibit any student from joining in any athletic team or sports activity sponsored by an elementary or secondary school or post-secondary institution that is designated for "females," "women," or "girls," except for "students of the female gender."

According to the bill, transgender women and girls would be able to dispute the ruling, if they get a "signed statement by a physician that the student is female."

We speak to 17-year-old Lane, a trans, high school soccer player, about the bill's potential impact and why it’s important.
