Small colleges in New England are facing tremendous pressure. There are fewer high school graduates in New England and students in this region are increasingly looking to go to college out of state.

We've seen Mount Ida and Newbury College close last year as a result of those shifts — and financial decisions they made. Others are heeding the warning signs and looking for new ways to remain open.

WBUR's Edify team has taken a closer look at the challenges facing small non-profit schools all this week, in their series "Small Colleges, Big Challenges."
