Traffic Roundup: Comm. Ave. Bridge Construction Causes Delays, Bird Scooters Ruffle Feathers
ResumeMonday marks the first full weekday of construction for the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge project, meaning all traffic restrictions from the project are in place — and commuters are experiencing slowdowns.
"We are seeing significant delays in certain portions of the [Mass.] Pike coming in from the west, so people can expect that that will continue throughout the week, and we're also expecting to see similar delays getting out of the city tonight," said MassDOT Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver.
Additionally, e-scooter company Bird has landed in Cambridge and Somerville, leaving dockless electric scooters on sidewalks to be rented through an app. Somerville officials are talking with Bird, and Cambridge officials met with the company Monday.
Earlier this month, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said he wants no part of these e-scooters and is warning the company against operating in Boston without getting permission first. The city has warned that any such scooters operating within city limits will wind up in the tow yard.
